Where the data comes from

Weather Bolt doesn't run its own weather models. It pulls directly from public sources: NOAA and National Weather Service forecasts, NDBC buoy stations for real-time wind and wave observations, and a satellite-based lightning detection network for strike data. That means the numbers on screen are the same underlying data meteorologists use. A guide to reading marine forecast numbers →

Lightning and storm tracking

The lightning layer plots every satellite-detected strike on a live radar view, color-coded by how recently it occurred, with proximity alerts that fire before you'd normally hear thunder. During hurricane season, Weather Bolt also overlays the National Hurricane Center's full forecast cone so a storm's projected path is visible on the same map as your local conditions. Forecasts

Check the next few hours or the week ahead. You get an hourly forecast and a 7-day outlook for the places you save.

Water tools, if you want them

Turn on Water tools in Settings to add tide predictions and marine conditions. You can also set your own wind, wave, and visibility limits, and each hour of the forecast is rated Good, Poor, or Dangerous against them. These tools are for boaters, kayakers, and anyone on the water. They stay off unless you turn them on.

On your wrist

The Apple Watch companion shows current conditions at a glance, along with complications for the watch face, so a status check doesn't require pulling out a phone.
